LOL of the day: Apple’s domainers DomainTools.com introduces rotating parking plan
Sep 07

Frank Didszuleit (founder of United Domains AG) launched a new project called DomXL. DomXL will give away valuable domains for free.

Now there’s a catch of course.

To be eligible for the free domain you have to buy some ad-pixels first. Wait before you stop reading (”Oh no… not another one-million-pixels-page“), I think it is quite interesting and refreshing in the domain market:

After all ad-pixels are sold, a coordinate within the pixel space will be selected and the domain will be transferred to the advertiser at that coordinate.

Needless to say, the more you buy pixels, the higher are the chances that you will get the domain… One pixel-space (10 by 10 pixels) costs 100 Euros.

DomXL starts with the premium domain IPTV.de:

DomXL gets the money it wants for the domain, the buyer has a chance to purchase a premium domain at a very low cost. Nice.10.000 pixels x 100 Euros = 1.000.000 Euros. That would be a very nice price for that domain! We’ll see how it works (ALL pixels have to be sold first!). I’m also interested to see what lawyers have to say about what I would call a lottery and if it does not infringe german gambling legislation.

Well at least you get some ad exposure through type-ins (direct navigation). I am sure that a hot domain like IPTV.de will generate enough type-ins.

Thanks, this is one of rather only a few really objective comments. Unfortunately most of all other comments are much more grim.

And nearly everybody commented only on the topic “lottery” … But the described kind of determination is in our opinion simply the fairest kind of determination.

Of course we will be able to act as we think best to determine an advertising customer for the domain, which will have nothing to to by chance …

Sorry, but domain ist NOT for free. It´s a lottery ;-)
