Domain registrar displays customers’ whois lookups for all to see.

Here’s an interesting new “feature” on Network Solutions’ web site: a list of domain name whois searches performed by customers in the past day.

That’s right. Do a whois lookup on Network Solutions and you can tip your hat to thousands of onlookers.

Think of all of the fun things you could do with this information:

…Figure out domains people are looking to buy and beat them to it

…Find out if a lawyer is looking up whois information, potentially to file a UDRP case

…Register alternative TLDs of the domains people are looking up…they’re obviously interesting domains

To make things easier, you can subscribe to the Network Solutions whois lookup RSS feed. You can also see a list of the most-searched whois records.

Ten bucks says the marketing team came up with this idea.

When covering netbook-related news, I use Google Translate most of the times. Although I don’t really see myself   using the  service to translate Afrikaans, Belarusian, Icelandic, Irish, Macedonian, Malay, Swahili, Welsh and Yiddish,  some of you might find yourself at one point in time, needing to translate texts  in those languages and so Google has added them to the languages supported by Google Translate.With these new languages, the number of international languages being supported by Google now totals to 51. This is also equivalent to 2550 language pairs and include all 23 languages used in the EU countries.

As these  new languages are fairly new in Google Translate, expect to encounter rough translations along the way. But Google promises that the translation will improve over time. Well, anyway, up until now even the other foreign languages suffer the same so don’t really expect too much from the translations. It’s good enough to understand the gist of what the texts written  in foreign language is trying to say.

What’s good about Google Translate right now is that Google is starting to integrate the service to its various web products including Gmail, RSS feeds in Google Reader, documents in Google Docs, and more to follow soon. It’s a lot better than going to http://translate.google.com and then pasting the text that you want to translate.

When Google announced about its Chrome-based OS sometime in July and yet the anticipation it has built was so much that many tried to fool around and came out with “alleged” screenshot of how the actual OS looks like. But none of them were officially acknowledge by Google. So, we continue to speculate and laud at more screenshots including the latest reported by Techcrunch.

You don’t have to take a closer look to see what’s wrong with the screenshot. Anyone with a clear eye would immediately notice the big icons which are docked on the left side of the screen. When we say big, we mean really big that it looks ugly. I know Google is not the best when it comes to interface design as it tries to be as simple as possible for most of the time. But you can achieve that simplicity without being ugly.

Anyway there are other reasons why the screenshot may not be true after all as it conflicts with some of the Google products which are represented by the big icons. For instance why would YouTube not be one of those icons considering that it is more visited and more used than Picasa Web Albums?

July’s latest global search market study has been released by comScore, and just like previous months’ results, Google still leads the pack followed by Yahoo, Chinese search engine Baidu and Microsoft. Overall global search market also registered a big increase – 113 billion searches were conducted in July 2009 which is a 41% leap from the same month last year.

Expectedly, Google Sites got the biggest global market share with 76.7 billion searches conducted on all its sites.  Yahoo follows at a distant second with 8.9 billion searches. While Chinese search engine Baidu is at third place with 8 billion searches and Microsoft with with only 3.3 billion searches.

Almost all of the top search properties worldwide have experienced considerable growth in their search query volume. Again, of the top three major U.S. search engine, Google leads the pack with 58% change followed by Microsoft with 41% change. Yahoo hardly grows with only 8% change.

Now that is the interesting part of this comScore study. Microsoft’s total search query volume worldwide may not be as big as Yahoo or Google but the percented change might be telling us something. Worldwide users may also be testing out Microsoft’s Bing, or Microsoft’s marketing strategy may be starting to get worldwide attention.

It’s still a long way to go before Bing reaches Yahoo’s point mark. But if it will be able to sustain its growth rate, it might actually reach that point sooner than we can think,

Last week on DailySEOTip.com we’ve been discussing why on-page navigation (via named anchors) may be a good idea: Google picks it up as mini-sitelinks within within Google SERPs:

You can see these picked up almost for any Wikipedia article (remember Wiki’s on-page architecture: a short introduction first followed by a table of contents via on-page named anchors – example: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Page_Title#Intro)

To me, this means a lot: it is not really that I hope my pages navigation to be picked up and included there. What really matters to me is that this shows that the intra-page navigation (via named anchors) does mean a lot to Google – and Google most probably uses it to understand more about page content structure.

Therefore I find it a good idea to add it especially for long pages containing lots of text content: it will help your users either.

Add Named-Anchors Navigation to Your Blog:

Now, the good news is that there is an easy way to add the intra-page navigation to your blog posts:

1. Install the Table of Contents Generator WordPress plugin (there are more plugins listed below);

2. Activate it via your Admin panel;

3. Insert inside your post content to trigger the Table of Contents generation.

Note: Make sure to use H1-H6 heading within your post content for the plugin to logically represent the hierarchy.

Once those really easy steps are taken, you should see the following just where you put the code:

More Similar Plugins

There are a couple of more plugins to experiment with with a few tiny different features:

Wordpress Table of Contents Plugin – this plugin is added to your site by including PHP code. This means it will pick the global structure of your post page (unlike the above one which only picks headings within the post body). Thus to create a logical table of contents, you will have to re-order all your headings (which are usually screwed by the blog templates).

SEO Table Of Contents is another really good option to try that has a handy control panel allowing to set the heading level, position on the page, the text preceding it, the look and feel, etc:

How would you like to own a domain valued at $43K for less than $1,000?

The domain Clippoo.com is at auction at GoDaddy.com.

Godaddy values the domain at  $42,657.

According to Godaddy, the domain is projected to receive over 70,000 visitors a month.

Apart from the traffic the domain receives according to GoDaddy.com I have no idea of what makes this domain worth $43K.

Of course Godaddy.com makes more in one hour of one day than I do all year, so if Godaddy thinks its worth $43K then who am I to say its not?

Alexa.org ranks the site as 141,000 but also shows that 60% of the traffic comes from Thailand.

With a current high bid of just $805.00.

The auction closes on Wednesday at 1:27pm PDT.
